Current Projects

Beyond Voting

Funded by the PEI Government’s Gender, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (GEDI) & Community Enhancement Program. Delivered in partnership with Immigrant & Refugee Services Association (IRSA) PEI.

Beyond Voting aims to support newcomers to Canada in understanding our political systems and learning about civil engagement and participation. Through this project, we will provide a free civic education workshop series designed for newcomers.

The series of four workshops will provide information about how different levels of government work and explore ways that individuals can make a difference beyond the ballot box. The workshops will be open to people of all genders who are new to PEI within the past 5 years. People of any immigration status are welcome to attend.

Workshops will be facilitated by our team with content revised by a Newcomers Advisory Committee, composed of six people who are newcomers themselves!

Addressing Harassment: Seminars for Municipal and Community Leaders

Funded by the Law Foundation of Prince Edward Island. In collaboration with a team of local lawyers and the PEI Human Rights Commission’s Shift Project.

This project aims to increase capacity in preventing and responding to in-person and online harassment. This project was developed in the context of existing safety concerns for various community leaders.

We are developing three free seminars to help leaders recognize, prevent, and respond to in-person and online harassment. The seminars will be open to municipal and community leaders of all genders. Seminars will be presented in North Rustico, Summerside, and Georgetown.

Our team will develop and present seminar content in partnership with a team of local lawyers and the PEI Human Rights Commission’s SHIFT Project.

Tech Safe Island

Funded by the PEI Government’s Interministerial Women’s Secretariat.

Tech-Safe Island aims to support technological safety on PEI. The key deliverable of this project is a Digital Self-Defense Toolkit that supports people facing technology-facilitated violence (TFV), including cyberviolence and digital harm.

The Toolkit will focus on helping people to understand the issue of technology-facilitated violence (TFV), and more specifically, technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), as well as responding to it. We will develop the Toolkit in consultation with local and national partners who will help us to ensure the toolkit is as accessible as possible. Consultations will include roundtables with government, non-profit, and business voices.

The Toolkit will be offered in print and digital form. While the resource is tailored to women and gender-diverse leaders, it can be used by anyone to better understand and address TFV.

Senior Women Volunteering Safely

Funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors program.

The aim of Senior Women Volunteering Safety is to empower self-identified senior women in issue-based campaigning and volunteering. Through this project, we will provide non-partisan training for those wishing to engage in politics or volunteer to support any cause.

The training will include safety procedures for in-person advocacy work and strategies for maintaining safety during online activities. The training will be open to women interested in volunteering in any sector. There will be two training sessions provided during this project, the first in Fall 2025 and the second in Winter 2026.

Steeped in Change: Pink Teas for Progress

Funded by the Interministerial Women’s Secretariat.

This project aims to raise awareness of the history of progress in women’s rights and the work that still needs to be done. The project’s name refers to the suffrage movement’s “pink teas,” which were political meetings posing as social gatherings.

Steeped in Change: Pink Teas for Progress will feature a series of three pink tea receptions: 1) The Boiling Point, 2) Now Brewing: Foundations of leadership, and 3) The New Pour: Intergenerational perspectives.”

Fostering Resilience in Women Municipal Leaders #2 (2024 - 2026)

Funded by the PEI Alliance for Mental Wellbeing. Delivered in partnership with the Federation of PEI Municipalities.

Through this project, we will support women municipal leaders in their roles. The aim is to help women succeed in positions of municipal leadership, which will also help their communities thrive.

The project will consist of quarterly workshops for mayors, counsellors, administrators, and municipal staff. The workshops will help these leaders build skills and network with one another. We will deliver content that helps leaders develop their mental well-being, enabling them to feel prepared, set boundaries, create support networks, and better serve their communities.

Gender-Based Violence and Emergency Preparation (2024 - 2025)

The objective is to ascertain gaps in how PEI is currently addressing natural disasters, climate crises, and pandemics through a gender equity lens, using feedback from women and gender-diverse climate leaders.

Empowering W&GD Advocates for Climate Resiliency (2024 - 2025)

The Coalition and a Steering Committee will bring together women and gender minorities across Island industries to strengthen advocacy skills and examine current government policies within government for change. A series of workshops over the fall-winter will have participants produce a policy brief and a public awareness campaign on climate-related topics of their choice.

National Action Plan to End GBV Committee (2024 - 2025)

Women's Network PEI is working with the Interministerial Women's Secretariat to lead community engagement and actions as part of the National Action Plan on Gender-Based Violence. There will be four to six meetings per year and funding will be provided for groups to attend each meeting.
