The PEI Coalition for Women in Government is thrilled to announce Sarah Outram as its new Executive Director. Outram has been employed as a program officer with the not-for-profit organization for the last year, and has significant leadership experience in the community, namely as President of Fusion Charlottetown.
“Having had the pleasure of working with Sarah over the last year, I am confident she is the best person to help the organization meet its mandate of advancing women’s leadership,” states Chelsey Rogerson, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Her passion, hard work and vision will play an integral role in further solidifying the Coalition’s position as a trusted advocacy and service organization on Prince Edward Island.”
The PEI Coalition for Women in Government was established 20 years ago to encourage and increase in the number of women in elected office. Co-founder Kirstin Lund served as project coordinator until 2013 when Dawn Wilson was hired as the first Executive Director and led the Coalition to evolve as a non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing women’s leadership in the political, civic, and democratic life of PEI. Sweta Daboo then served as the Executive Director from 2020 to 2023, overseeing a restructuring of the governance of the organization, a growth in operations, as well as the strengthening of partnerships of the not-for-profit within the community.
“I am looking forward to the year ahead, and what our team can accomplish together. Sweta built our capacity up brilliantly, providing us an excellent place from which we can continue supporting women and all underrepresented genders in obtaining and thriving in various leadership roles across the Island.”
Some of the projects Outram and the Coalition team will be working on include a Girls Parliament in March 2024, as well as programs aiming to foster leadership and networks in women in municipal governments and climate action respectively.
“Although I was born on PEI with much of my family here, I had the privilege of living many places across the country, and will be bringing those perspectives with me.”, Outram says, “My background in leading successful community events and advocacy projects with Fusion and the Canadian Wildlife Federation will fit well with this new role. Our staff and the board are excited to get started.”
